What is the road bike, the best way to Castro Valley East Oakland (near the zoo?)? I try to bike ride 10 miles from Castro Valley to my work on Keller Avenue in Oakland. Interested in Lake Chabot Road around the western shore, but the road seems hostile bike ... I understand that there are bike paths along the western shore, are they useful for travel?
Hmmmm, take the road high (above 580) and some of the most spectacular ascents and difficult in the Bay Area. Take Route plain (Mission / MacArthur) and there are some risky areas. Difficult to describe but you may be able to combine the two.
511.org has a map tool road bike. Think mapquest .... for bikes!
East Bay Bike Coalition has one too many.
Contact a local bike club like San Leandro Cherry City Cycling Club and ask them for suggestions or visit some of their rides for the road tours of the region.
So try your route on a weekend, see how it works.
