How to decide on the system of bicycle racks ideal for your car Few of us have a vehicle large enough to carry mountain bikes inside.
This means that for the rest of us, if we take our cycles on vacation or out in the hinterlands that we have to get some kind of cycle rack to fit your vehicle.
There are four major categories of bike racks to choose from.
These are: Roof bars. Strap-on door hatchback. media kingpin and a guy who climbed into the cargo bed of a pickup truck. Each style has its own advantages and disadvantages so it is essential that you are serious about exactly how you will use your rack cycle before finally deciding on the style of purchase.
Strap-on door
Strap-on racks are the cheapest available style. They are easy media based on the rear door of the car and are secured by straps with hooks that hook around the top and bottom of the tailgate. Strap-on bicycle racks are best used for travel relatively low mileage, like the bracelets can rarely work my long trips. Sometimes your rear license plate is blocked by this type of bike rack, so a board of light will be required to stay within the law. If you do not already have a trailer plug on your vehicle, be equipped with a will to grow your final price for the rack. A problem with this type of bike rack is the bike can sometimes damage the panels of the vehicle or paintjob. In addition, the attachment points strap can simply mark the vehicle a little less points of contact.
Mounted on the roof supports
These set the standard roof rails type. Some cars have the track length at which you can mount two crossbars, but on other cars, you need to buy a bike rack and execution of separate attachments. Most cars can carry two bikes and up to four lots in this way. This media type is reasonably safe and bicycles can be locked on the grid quite easily. Depending on the height of your vehicle, get on and off the bike rack can be a strain especially if you're not very big or strong. Having the bikes up there in the wake may also cause a large amount of drag, which increases your fuel consumption.
Towing hitch mounted carriers
Hitch mounted bike racks are very strong and some can carry up to six full-size bike. All the work if you already have a towing attachment. If you do not, you must consider the additional cost to get one fitted. These bike racks are a good height for working poor and are very easy to load and unload. As the strap on type, they can block the line of sight of your license plate, so be aware of this possibility. Some come with a "swing away" feature that allows you to open and close the tailgate with your bike loaded. Some even allow you to tow a caravan, at the same time.
Lorry bed racks
These are good if you already have a van. The cycle carrier is installed in the truck bed just behind the cab and attaches easily to the bike rack. They are incredibly safe, secure and easy to load and unload. They are not obscure lights or increase fuel consumption and are therefore perfectly in some respects, but of course use if you have a truck!
