Street Bike Prices

I will be heading to my local bike shop soon and I was wondering if I'll be able to get a decent bike for that price? I have not bought a bike about 8 years and do not really know the prices they go back to those days. Right now I'm looking for a Haro or GT (which I'm riding now) but I'm open to suggestions from others. Thank you.

For your money, a GT 2.0 or 3.0 would be a good on-off road bike. If you are looking for a road bike or hybrid, then you might want to watch something else. Read the reviews online and do not forget eBay for negotiations on a new bike, too.
