Good Bike Sports Tourer? I travel from Aberdeen to Portsmouth bike and right now I'm riding 750 ZXR. It's a bike very well, but for a period of six Hundred mile run ten o'clock he opened the crap out of my back, because it simply is not designed for long trips.
Recommendations, please, for trails that comfortable. Everything will still be a rocket, handles quite well (although obviously it will not be as good as a sport bike) and I can mount a serious amount of luggage.
NO, please note, nothing Honda Goldwing or Harley Davidson things Electraglide companies. If I want something great, I'll buy a car.
And I do not need specific price at the time either.
I own a bike company and accessories see all kinds of machines here. I myself am also Ducati (999 and ST2), but when people ask me advice on the best perhaps all round bike, so I really have no hesitation in saying that nearly all Honda VFR model is about as good as you can get to do just about everything very well, some things brilliantly, and nothing wrong.
Of course the magazines comments on trails that will periodically and find this bike weeks of the year is better, but overall I think the VFR is just the benchmark that all others are judged against.
If you do not believe that, take a look at the modern BMW, they tick all your boxes and new are still a lot of smiles on the winding. You are covering some serious miles over there, why not a Honda Blackbird or a major Yamaha FJ? Personally, I took the ST2 throughout Europe many times and never missed a beat or had any problems at all but I know that people still worry about Ducati service. The new ST3 although apparently a fantastic machine designed for what you do and independently well received. It is also one of the above "this bike weeks of the year.
If I were you I'd look at a VFR and I think it would take a lot for me not to buy Italian, but by doing what you are, then the head and heart must combine to overule pure emotion.
Good luck
Yamaha TDM hikers hiking and run Honda VFR little more sporty
Contest Yamaha, Honda ST1300 and ST 1100 or.
If you are looking for something cheaper then one of the oldest in Trophy Triumph (900/1200) models. A little more right into big baskets, and a vertical shell-bag if necessary. Load torque down low (c. 2000 rpm) and a good gear. Fuel consumption mid 40s. Avoid the most recent (Rover style, you'll know if you see it), unless you have very long legs.
They go for miles, bike for 20-30k should not be too expensive and has lots of life. reasonable and protective screen against the weather.
If you go for a bike with a chain and a Scott Oiler is essential. From experience they double or triple the lifetime of a chain.
BMW K1200GT
I started looking last year for something exactly the same reason and finally tested the new 2007 Triumph Tiger 1050cc and "WOW"
I used a GSF1200S of 4years and complained of posture, after a long journey to find the Forth Road Bridge at Donington, was recently in Portrush, Ireland Livingston on the Tigris and no complaints from me! delivering great power, speed, torque and sound! Looks like too much.
Cheers
Andy
Try a BMW F650GS, could well be the bike. Go like the clappers, but still capable of the distances you are talking with a touch of comfort. (Not to mention the goodies ie side bags, tank bag, etc. that are available), this bike is designed to go on the Dakar, so they have modified to go on the road tar as well (really a BMW)
KTM 950 Adventurer. Comfortable and go anywhere, even available with a GPS
