Deschutes National Forest is a swarm of Ponderosa and other evergreen trees that line the country at the periphery of the Cascade mountain range. Not far from the short period of high housing prices and seasonal lodging near Bend, Oregon area, you can find single and double track mountain bike and hiking trails that disappear into the lush forested hills. It is a small presentation on some of the tracks you can expect to find for cycling in the park.

Deschutes National Forest Trail Runs

This forest has been discovered by Western civilization by French fur traders who explored the northwest. The name comes from the description of the river that runs through Bend today. If you followed the river in those days you would have met many series of waterfalls.

The raging river to both eliminate a large portion of land ice in central Oregon. The waterfalls along the way gave the name of River Falls, River Falls or, hence the shortened name - Deschutes.

The city of Bend is the beginning of part of network of trails. Deschutes River can be run quickly along the shore bike that last several miles. This is something fairly easy to do for most bikers, in fact, some citizens are very active in Bend, take it as a break during a workout routine lunch break.

You can find many paths to the outside of the bend near the marshy area Lakes Sno-Park (about 16 miles from Bend westbound on Highway 46). They have many beginner to intermediate slopes which cover an average of 7-9 miles with little elevation change, usually around 500 feet difference.

The Great Lakes Marsh Loop Road is a 52.1-gauge track with unique obstacles to manage. You do not even need to be in great shape to take on this track. It covers only about 4 miles and takes you through the meadow Swampy Lakes.

Swampy Ridge Loop Highway 52.2 however can be annoying. You loop over a 9-mile climb with a steep climb to the crest of a descent just as dramatic. That's about half single track and the other half to double track. It is better for intermediate riders.

Westbound on Highway 46 on Bend you can find many heads of other trails. Be careful cycling, since they will often double as hiking and equestrian trails So keep that in mind as you turn at full speed.
