Maintaining Your Mountain Bike - The Basics Riding a bike is great exercise and great fun ... and so it is difficult for the legs, it is difficult on the machine itself. Keep your bike serviced protect you and keep the bike in better condition for years to come. There are three base calendars for the maintenance of your bike:
- Just before boarding,
- Just after you drive
- Long-term storage and repairs.
Just before mounting the bike maintenance is fairly simple: Check the tire pressure, fill level you are comfortable and so on. Make sure the seat is tilted to the right angle, make sure the quick release levers on the wheels are locked tight, and run the pedals with your hands to ensure that the derailleur works well. Your goal is to ensure that if something is going to need the attention, he gets it now, rather than after you're on the track.
After the race, especially if it was wet or muddy, you must set the bike upside down (so it is balanced on the saddle and handlebars), and run a damp cloth on the gear shift, and other moving parts shift the chain about shifting gears. The objective here is to get a mud, twigs and thorns before they provide a way for moisture to penetrate. It's also time to break the wheels and clean them before throwing the bike into the car to take her home.
After you get the bike home, give everything a thorough cleaning. If you use a dry lubricant on the chain, once a month, break the chain and re-apply. (We regularly boil our bicycle chains in paraffin, but because we go into winter, and more resistant to snow and salt). It's also probably time to just take things in part outside, within the limits of your skills, and putting them back together, which is ideal for setting systems damper (and get rid of annoying squeaks) and tightening the cables for the brakes, the control of brake pads, etc..
ATV routinely get just a little wear. Always check to make sure things are set correctly when you're off the bike and at home, again, the goal is to find anything that could break and fix it before you go on the track rather than leisure limited by equipment failure.
If you're not a cyclist all time (and not many people are), the value of carrying out certain steps to prepare your bike for storage and take to the road again in spring.
Firstly, when you pack your bike, take the wheel and hang the frame. When the wheels are off, its worth running the inner tubes with a bucket of soapy water to locate leaks and slow patch, and the tightening of dollars and setting up what you can achieve .
A good book for this process is the complete bike repair manual that we use in our shop to get bikes ready for sale. It is also a good time for true your wheels with a spoke wrench. (Some real bikers dedicated their wheels after every ride ...)
When you put the bike in running condition, the first priority is to check the breaks, then running gear changes - cable boxes can move when the motorbike is in stock, which can make things a little more noisy than what they should be. (Remember, if it is making noise, then plays that probably should not rub, rub.)
With these tips, you should be well set for the pleasure of biking!
