Meridian BikeHow to add speed on a tricycle shwinn?

I just bought my wife a tricycle Meridian shwinn is a single speed. I want to add 3 gears to make them climb a little less painful for her (she has never ridden a bicycle or a tricycle before and have asthma).

I am a decent guy hobby, so if you can please list the components I need to purchase this tricycle for multi-speed, I really appreciate it. I do not need super trick components, the average Shimano will ... Thank you!

I think this can be done. You may be able to do yourself if you have previous experience of bicycle maintenance. If you look at the back-end of the tricycle, you will notice the chain operates a hub and another channel will return to turn the axle. You need a special hub that has two teeth on him. How you convert this to a 3 speed hub is to change the single-speed internal hub for a three speed, but it must have both wheels to run the rear axle. It is actually a repair involved. I recommend selling the trike and you buy one with a speed of 3, the conversion is expensive.

Compared to the cost of selling your cart and replace it.

Ummm ... it can be done but it is difficult and you will not be able to use Shimano. You'll need a hub Sturmey Archer AW3 along a cable long enough and a trip lever.

As it seems you can watch stuff and see how things go together and split it will be quite clear how anything works in the system. According to the model Schwinn trike you can have to share the driving axle on the other side ... Moreover, if you take a close look should be readily apparent.

It may be a good idea to find an old Raleigh 3-speed or Hercules to a garage sale and examine closely how the disorder on a regular bike. Then you can take the pieces and put them up on the truck.

I have asthma and the 2nd floor of the bicycle about 5,000 miles per year. It will feel better as time passes.

I'm not sure that's possible on this model. Talk to your local bike shop. This is not just a matter of bolting something. We talk about the reconstruction and replacement wheel hub. It is certainly not a DIY project.
