What European cycling is more demanding than the Tour de France? On racing days, I would say that the Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy) is very close. Like all great revolutions (France, Italy and Spain) vary their routes each year, however, it is difficult to make a valid comparison.
For sheer physical demand on a runner, but I would vote for the classic, the only day known as "Paris-Roubaix. 160 miles or more in length, sometimes in early spring, around Easter, and includes about 28 sections of old paved roads known as "pavement." Because of the terrain, narrow roads and rough, and unpredictable weather, it really deserves its nickname of "Hell of the North".
I must say that so far. I think the Tour is the most demanding.
There is no other race that comes even close to the Tour de France.
Tours of Italy and Spain are next to the line but not the same length pure, the amount of climbing, or quality of land, the Tour de France.
