How do I fix broken bicycle brake cable? I bike 70 gears old that I love and use it to get around town, but recently the brake cables began to go. The rear brake cable is completely broken and the front end is suspended by a thread. Does anyone know how to back up and running? Thank you
It is quite easy. Since you say that your bike is old enough. You must replace both the cable and the cable jacket. You can get a complete package for both brakes at any bike shop, they are inexpensive. Get a little help on this shop will tell you some details that I may be missing here.
Notice how the cables are routed and attached to your bike now, before drawing any outside. The front and back are doing the same thing. be done at a time if you need to refer to how it looks.
Loosen the nut on the break that holds the cable, pull the brake cable. Now, with the slack rope, you will be able to break open the lever to see where it is attached. Pull the cable box completely to do so if necessary. Once you have the cable attached inside the brake lever, put the hose back on. If your cables like the right length before you'll need to cut the cable and housing for the same length. Finish installing the reverse of the removal.
Otherwise, a store will be happy that for a small fee. If you are not familiar with the brake adjustment, etc., in all, I recommend the shop to do. After all without brakes = danger!
Go to a bike shop and get a new cable. Not so expensive and not difficult to replace.
I used to ride an old bike that I put up with parts I pulled from dumpsters on campus. At first all I spent money on the tubes was new tires and brake pads. But I almost killed when a brake cable broke so I replaced all cables, even the gears. I had the brakes safely and moved my gear much smoother ..
Go to your local bike shop and tell them you have the brake cables and Housing. They should be able to do it for you. Cost .... not more than $ 30
