What is the difference between a bike working "prototype" and a bike market "prototype"? For the same bike products / concept there are many stages of production to be done to get a product from the market Alife. During these phases prototypes are built, if necessary.
There may be much difference. A working prototype is often cobbled together by a mechanic. A prototype of the market is more refined, is a part of test marketing.
I've had experience with the construction of prototype bike, and I have some pictures to share:
This is type 3, which has a fairing Kevlar (aramid fiber Dupont trademark) manufactured in 1987:

After tests on people, other suggestions were taken into account. The next picture is of the type 9, built in 1993, and fiberglass. The fairing is lower because the tests most extensive refit in Florida found that runners got hot, it blocked the air. In addition, the new fairing features a storage compartment large enough for beverage cans x 12 12 oz And the new design has the fairing mounted on the frame, the handlebar, it is much more stable. This bike cost $ 270.00 to build and sold (Dutch auction) for $ 1,200.00.

This photo is of type 7, which I have not sold. The fairing has been designed by the same women who designed the 9 Type:

I skipped using the number eight, because, as a game of pool, I want the Eightball be the last.
Since the construction of these bikes, there was a lot of electric bikes in production in China, some 16 million dollars per year. So, I would cut my losses by using bicycle China. Maybe I'll continue to build on my own once, customs basis, but the consumer is only concerned about cost.
