Bicycle Events

I am somewhat new to the world of cycling but I do ride a lot, particularly long distances, and I wonder if there is no event of cycling marathon type (for fans obviously). If you could tell me about these types of events especially anyone you know of near New York, I'd be grateful, Thanks.
